Bridal Shower: Afternoon Tea

Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve loved going to tea with my mom and my sister. I don’t think I’m the only person who has had this memory, as I have attended and planned several afternoon tea bridal showers. Its very classic and elegant and ladylike – all characteristic of what brides want their events to be like. While I definitely think that a bridal shower should be tailored to a specific bride’s taste (it just makes it more special for them), there are general parameters you can follow to pull off planning such an event. Here are my suggestions for putting together a delightful afternoon tea.

Decor: Classic and Elegant – flowers, printed table cloths, silver flatware and lots of glass (for drinks, table decor, etc.). If you have different print tea cups available its really cute, but not necessary.

Drinks: I’d suggest a table set for Tea and all its needed components –  tea cups, hot water, lemon, sugar, cream, etc.  It is more user friendly for a group event. As for cocktails, I’d set space in the table for these as well –  including Champagne Punch and Apple Sangria. Those types of cocktails are still light enough for an elegant afternoon event.

Food: Platters of Tea Sandwiches, Mini Scones with jam and butter, Petit Fours, Mini Rum Bundt Cakes and Fruit and Vegetable Platters.

Favors: I personally love hand tied tea bags, but you could also give tea cookies, tea strainers or home-made scones.
